Google Alerts is a free Google tool that alerts you when a specific word or phrase chosen by you is mentioned on the internet.

If, for example, you want to know every time your company brand is mentioned, updates within your industry or competitors names are mentioned, you can create alerts for these.

You might also want to set up an alert for your own name so that you’ll be alerted when it appears on a website or on social networks for example.

How To Set Up Google Alerts

  1. Click to go to Google Alerts page here.
  2. Put in an alert in the ‘Create an Alert’ field. For example, ‘website designer’.
  3. Choose ‘Show options’ and enter how often you want to receive the alerts, the language, area, what source etc.
  4. Click ‘Create Alert’ to start the alert.

Depending on how often you have asked to be sent the alerts, you will then start receiving the alert mentions as an email.
